Privacy Policy

NetParty is a free browser extension that lets friends watch a video together in sync, with text and voice chat, GIFs and emoji reactions. It works on Netflix, JioHotstar and YouTube. It is run by Chirag Rasane. This policy explains what the extension and its sync server handle, and why.
No accounts, no tracking
NetParty has no sign-up and no accounts. It has no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and we never sell or share your data.
What the extension handles
- Display name and picture. The name you choose and your profile picture (an emoji you pick, such as 🐼 or 🍕), shown to others in your party. Both are stored in your browser and sent to the sync server while you're in a party.
- Chat messages. What you type or send in the party chat (text, emoji, links and GIFs), relayed to everyone in that party.
- Reactions. When you tap a reaction, that emoji, with your name and picture, is relayed to the people in your party so it floats over their video. Reactions are not stored.
- GIF searches. When you open the GIF picker, your search terms (suggested from the title you're watching) are sent to our server, which asks KLIPY for matching GIFs. KLIPY receives the search terms from our server, not your name or party. Results are cached on our server's edge for about 10 minutes, without recording who searched. The GIF images themselves load from KLIPY's servers, so KLIPY can see your IP address as any website would, under its own privacy policy. A GIF you send is shared in the party chat as a link to KLIPY's image.
- Party and playback state. The party code, the ID of what's playing (a Netflix, JioHotstar or YouTube video ID), and play, pause and seek events with timestamps, so everyone stays in sync.
- Voice chat. Voice runs peer to peer between party members over WebRTC. The server only passes the connection setup messages that let browsers find each other. Your audio is not sent to or recorded by our server. Microphone access is requested only when you turn voice on.
- Local settings. Your name, picture, chat text size, chosen reactions, recently used emoji, server setting and party state are kept in your browser's extension storage and session storage.
NetParty does not read your streaming account details, passwords, payment information or viewing history. It runs only on the supported sites: Netflix, JioHotstar and YouTube.
How long we keep it
A party, with its member names and pictures and up to its last 150 chat messages, is kept on the sync server while it's active, so people who reload can rejoin. It is deleted when the host ends the party, and any inactive party is removed after at most 6 hours. Basic request logs kept by our hosting provider follow its standard retention.
Where it's processed
The sync server runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes connection data, such as IP addresses, to deliver the service under its own privacy policy.
Children
NetParty is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
